Plenty of pet brands call themselves Canadian. Fewer say what they mean by it. We check each brand’s ownership and its manufacturing separately, quote the sentence we relied on, and date it, so you can see exactly what is Canadian about a product before you buy it.
What we mean by Canadian
These are the claims we track. They are deliberately kept apart, because a single Canadian label hides the differences that actually matter to a buyer.
- Made in Canada
- The product itself is manufactured in Canada. This is about the factory, not the head office.
- Canadian-owned company
- The company that owns the brand is Canadian. This says nothing about where its products are manufactured.
- Canadian brand
- The brand was founded and is operated in Canada, whatever its current ownership or manufacturing.
- Made with Canadian ingredients
- Some or all of the inputs are sourced in Canada. Check the scope note for which ones.
- Designed in Canada
- Product design and development happen in Canada. Manufacturing may happen elsewhere.
- Sold by Canadian retailers
- Canadian shops carry it. This says nothing about who owns the brand or where it was made.
The last one is the trap. A foreign product on a Canadian shelf is still a foreign product, so it never appears in the Canadian lists below.

How this is researched
Every claim links to the page we read and the date we read it. We prefer a company’s own site, its packaging, or a government record, and we treat a “Proudly Canadian” banner as marketing rather than evidence. Ownership and manufacturing change, so each claim carries its own verification date and is re-checked on its own schedule. If we could not confirm something, the page says so.
