After reading about the ingredients in different dog foods, I decided this would be the best one for my 8 month old Goldendoodle. The problem was that I couldn’t find it in any stores near me so Chewy offered me the option to have it auto shipped – for free! I received the food the day after I ordered it and he loves it. It changed, it stayed the same…
Everyone seems to be getting all excited about the change in formula. My year-old Goldendoodle LOVED the old food, and he LOVES the new food. I see absolutely no difference. I have fed him Acana and then Orijen since his second bag of dog food, simply because I wanted the best possible kibble for my boy. Orijen is one of like 3 or 4 brands (if that) that have NEVER had a recall. Having had a previous dog nearly die of pancreatitis from a bad batch of another very well-known (and very good, or so I thought) dog food, I told myself that when it comes to Bennie-boy, it will be nothing but the best food. Was I happy about the change? I had my concerns initially. But what it comes down to is this: do you trust the company? I trusted them implicitly when I bought the Canadian-made food. Is there any reason not to trust them if they make the food in Kentucky? Nope. So look, everyone is getting all excited and crazy about the change. Here’s the deal: our dogs loved the old formula, our dogs love the new formula. If you’re considering the food and have yet to try it, don’t believe the hysteria. Read the ingredients. It is simply the best dry dog food money can buy.

Great Switch
Our 2 year old Goldendoodle became very moody when it came to eating. He has been on the chicken and rice pro plan for since he was a puppy. We told our vet that he was never excited to eat and she suggest changing the flavor and I’m so glad we did. He now gobbles this up and appears to be so much happier when we pour his food out! If you have a moody eater you may want to try.

Made the switch to TOTW…no regrets here!
My standard Goldendoodle just turned one and was on Purina Pro Plan puppy (recommended by vet and breeder). Unfortunately, Purina changed its probiotic formula due to supply shortages, and this led to weeks-long bouts of diarrhea and vet visits for my dog. The plan was to switch to adult food around one year. After a ton of research and ingredient comparisons, TOTW was the clear winner with its varied sources of protein through meat and (HEALTHY!) grains. My girl is a grazer and can be a finicky eater, but she is glad to gobble this up! Her poops are back to normal, her coat is shiny, and she’s happy and healthy. I’m happy too because she’s getting quality ingredients that don’t break the bank.

Great choice for grain-free
We started this Wellness brand grain-free dogfood when Acana stopped selling their food through Chewy. Wellness Core Grain-Free Original Turkey and Chicken rates a 5 on Dog Food Analysis, which is their highest rating. It has been an easy adjustment for our 7.5 yr old goldendoodle. At the end of her last bag of Acana we started mixing 1/2 old food and 1/2 new food. She’s now been totally on Wellness Core Grain-Free for several weeks and we haven’t seen any changes in her poo & no gas! Highly recommend!

He used to eat all his food at once and all of the sudden he would just walk away from the bowl without eating a bite. We decided to try Wellness and he’s been eating so much better and hasn’t had any signs of tummy troubles. He eats all his food now.

I switched over to Orijen after feeding my dog Organix. I fostered my Chi-Terrier mix at 6 weeks, and have been feeding him Orijen since he was 10-11 weeks old. He loves his new kibble, I love the quality. Even when I was slowly transitioning him, he would ONLY pick out and eat the Orijen kibble!

They love it
I don’t very often feed canned dog food but use it to “disguise” supplements that they won’t easily take (e.g. heart worm meds). My friends feed this and I tried it and my dogs went crazy for it. I now give it as an add on for a treat in addition to the Stella and Chewy’s freeze dried beef.

Hey what can I say…. if there happy I’m happy! This food is good for them, doesn’t make them get the runs like other canned dog food that I have given them before.
Dog Food Buying Guide for Goldendoodle Owners
Choosing the right food for your Goldendoodle is essential to ensure their overall health, happiness, and longevity. This guide will help you navigate the process, covering important topics to consider when selecting the best food for your beloved furry companion.
Age and life stage
Goldendoodles have different nutritional needs depending on their age – puppy, adult, or senior. Choose a dog food that is specifically formulated for your dog’s life stage to ensure they receive the appropriate nutrients.
Activity level
Goldendoodles have different nutritional needs depending on their age – puppy, adult, or senior. Choose a dog food that is specifically formulated for your dog’s life stage to ensure they receive the appropriate nutrients.
Weight management
Goldendoodles are prone to obesity, making weight management crucial. Choose a dog food with an appropriate calorie content and portion sizes to maintain a healthy weight.
Food allergies and sensitivities
Goldendoodles may have allergies or sensitivities to certain ingredients. Watch for signs like itching, gastrointestinal upset, or skin issues. If your dog exhibits any of these symptoms, consider a hypoallergenic or limited-ingredient diet.
Protein sources
High-quality protein is essential for Goldendoodles’ muscle development and overall health. Look for dog foods with whole meat sources, such as chicken, turkey, beef, or fish, as the primary ingredient.
Grain-free or whole-grain options
Some Goldendoodles may have difficulty digesting grains, while others thrive on them. If your dog has a grain sensitivity, opt for grain-free formulas. Otherwise, choose a dog food containing whole grains like brown rice or oatmeal for a balanced diet.
Nutrient balance
A balanced diet is essential for your Goldendoodle’s overall health. Look for dog foods that meet the nutritional guidelines set by the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) to ensure they contain the right balance of proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals.
Ingredients to avoid
Steer clear of dog foods containing artificial preservatives, colors, or flavors, as well as by-products and fillers like corn, wheat, or soy. These ingredients offer minimal nutritional value and may cause health issues in some dogs.
Brand reputation and quality control
Choose a reputable brand with a history of producing high-quality dog foods. Research the company’s manufacturing and quality control processes to ensure the food meets safety and nutritional standards.
Consult your veterinarian
our veterinarian knows your Goldendoodle’s health history and specific needs. Consult them for personalized recommendations on the best dog food for your unique pet.
By taking these factors into account, you’ll be able to choose the perfect dog food for your Goldendoodle, ensuring they enjoy a healthy, happy, and active life.
Micronutrients:
Micronutrients are essential vitamins and minerals that play a crucial role in your Goldendoodle’s overall health. They support various bodily functions, including immune system function, cell growth, and metabolism. Key micronutrients to look for in dog food include vitamins A, B, C, D, E, and K, as well as minerals like calcium, phosphorus, potassium, and iron. High-quality dog foods often include fruits, vegetables, and other natural sources of these essential micronutrients, ensuring your Goldendoodle receives the necessary amounts for optimal health.
Protein
Protein is a vital component of a Goldendoodle’s diet, as it is the building block for their muscles, bones, and other tissues. High-quality protein sources, such as chicken, turkey, beef, fish, or lamb, should be the primary ingredient in your dog’s food. The protein content in dog food should range from 18-25% for adult Goldendoodles and 22-32% for puppies. Ensuring that your Goldendoodle receives an adequate amount of protein will promote lean muscle development, support healthy growth, and maintain a strong immune system.
Fat
Fats are an essential energy source for your Goldendoodle and contribute to their overall health. They help maintain healthy skin and coat, support brain function, and aid in the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins. Look for dog foods with high-quality fat sources such as chicken fat, fish oil, or flaxseed oil. The recommended fat content for adult Goldendoodles is 10-15%, while puppies require a slightly higher amount, ranging from 14-18%. It’s important to monitor your dog’s fat intake to prevent obesity, as Goldendoodles are prone to weight gain.
Carbohydrates
Carbohydrates provide energy for your Goldendoodle and help support their digestive health. They can be found in ingredients like whole grains, fruits, and vegetables. When selecting a dog food, opt for formulas containing complex carbohydrates, such as brown rice, barley, or sweet potatoes, as they release energy slowly and help maintain consistent blood sugar levels. Avoid dog foods with high amounts of simple carbohydrates, like corn or wheat, as they can cause rapid spikes in blood sugar and contribute to weight gain. The carbohydrate content in dog food should generally range from 30-50% for adult Goldendoodles and 25-40% for puppies.
By carefully considering the micronutrient content, protein, fat, and carbohydrates in your Goldendoodle’s diet, you can ensure they receive the optimal nutrition needed to maintain their overall health and well-being.
